Our Story
It all begins with an idea, and our idea began in 1984 with Robert Race. Robert, raised by a machinist, started his career in 1957 at Burroughs in Detroit. Robert did his apprenticeship and went on to become a foreman for the company. Robert decided to expand his horizons and depart Burroughs to travel and service machines. Raising two boys and traveling became difficult, so Robert left and started working at a production machine shop, where he stayed for 20+ years. He rose to the top and became vice president. His eldest son began to work with him, while his youngest worked at a CNC shop building gauges. In 1984 Robert and his sons branched off on their own, opening Tri-Matic Screw Machine Products in Romulus, Michigan. Their business grew, which meant bouncing from renting one building to a larger one. In 1993 they built their shop in Howell, Michigan where they remain today. Robert passed away in 2002, and a lot of things have changed since then. One thing that has remained the same is Tri-Matic has continued to be a family-owned business, with three generations of family have running it. If there is something Tri-Matic can guarantee, it is that they put all their love and passion behind their products. It is simply everything they have ever known.
In loving memory of Robert Junior Race
